Well, we are hard at work getting the details of State Day taken care of and some of the raffle items are starting to come in so I thought I would share one with you:

Randomness

Hi there, I have been feeling guilty about not updating this blog with all that has been going on so I had a quick 15 minutes to put up what I did this week.  We are having a slipper decorating contest today at work, and I had to try to do my decorations to include miniatures.  This is what I have come up with   ...

It was a quick, fun project to do.  Not much time to put anything else!

NC State Day 2013

Hello, it sure has been a busy second half of the year!  I wanted to post some updates on the club happenings.

The biggest news is that our club will be hosting the NC State Day Event in 2013.  We are a new club and we don't have a large group, but we are really motivated and excited about this event.  We have a great group that seems to work really well together!

Well, since the convention, we have had several meetings.  In September, we got together for a fun meeting to share news and do a show and tell of our convention treasures.  We also all went down to Charlotte to meet at Debbie's house for lunch and to do some serious State Day planning.  We did get quite a bit accomplished and the chicken salad was delicious!

In October, naturally we met for the 3rd annual NAME DAY event.  This year we built "The Alcove" kits.  We had a special treat because Jean was able to come up from SC and play!  We had a very productive morning, then broke for lunch at a local restaurant next door.  We came back and got some more work done.  Some finished theirs, some finished 2 of theirs, and others (ok, me) did not quite complete their first one, but it was all a very fun day.

As we were winding things down, and packing up, Lynn wanted us to go an see a local shop that she loves, so of course we had to go and shop for a bit!

After NAME Day, we all got rather busy and did not meet again until November.  Even then there were only 3 of us and we just went out to dinner.

The first weekend was really fun!  That Friday night we all go down to Charlotte for what they call "Dinner and a Mini".  This is a group of about 25-30 people who get together for an evening to do a Christmas themed project and of course - have dinner.  The hosting club uses it as a fund raiser and it is always a great time!  We try not to stay too late because it is about a 1-1/2 hour drive home. The project we did this year was a quarter inch scale church which is covered in snow.  You don't ever go inside the church, but it is unique in that it was designed to light up inside by using flickering tea lights.

Then we get up bright and early the next morning and drive back to to that area for P.J.'s Miniatures store's yearly Christmas day of make-it-take-it's.  You go and they have different people teaching you how to make small quick projects.  We made tree skirts, a partially sliced roast, peppercorn wreath, an child's antique pull toy, hanging Santa decoration, mugs of hot chocolate and decorative cakes.  I may have missed something, but that is all I can recall right now. They have snacks, lunch and of course shopping.  We are after all in a miniature store!

Then we met once more for the year - it was a gift exchange and planning meeting to go over some more State Day planning and getting more details ironed out.

I think that pretty much catches us up for the year.  I have just finished getting the registration forms up and available here in the links on the side and also on our State Day Face Book Page HERE.  Now to move on to getting the registration packets ready to go.

Back from Charlotte

Well, the National Miniature Convention in Charlotte is over and all of our members have survived!  Like any week long trip, there were ups and downs, but we all has fun and came home with more mini treasures than we know what to do with. For me, as a first time convention goer, it was all relatively foreign to me, but thank goodness I had some veterans along to make it easier & help it all make sense.  It was wonderful to meet some new friends and to learn some new things about old friends.  I was just going to post a few group pictures that I did manage to get.

Our 'Hostess with the Most-ess' will all of her PEEPS!
(we were one of the more sprited table  :) )
WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The next few are of our group sorting out our Roundtables.  We had 9 people involved in our "divide & conquer" plan.  We basically took the entire list of roundtables available & each person was responsible for getting all the roundtables- in all scales-for all 9 people- for the items that were assigned to them.  This turned out to be a little more involved than we originally thought, but it all worked out.  When all was said & done, we ended up with about 200 or so  roundtables that we all obtained within about 4 minutes.  We originally had 210 to get, but some of them sold out before we could get them.  The photos below are us in the grand hallway sorting out our new goodies.

Once we were all done sorting, there were some in the group (myself included) that did a mad dash back into the roundtables room to get a few more if there were any left!!!  There were just some deals we COULD NOT miss.

Getting Up to Speed

This is our first post to get this blog off the ground so to speak.  Our club was created in May of 2011.  We started off with 5 core members and are slowly growing our group of mini friends.

Besides our regular meetings, we do get periodically get together for special projects.

**We all get together for the 2011 NAME DAY event to work on the counter.

**We also made tote bag favors for the 2011 SC State Day event "His & Hers- Opposites Attract".  We made little plates of iced cookies.

**One of our members won a raffle from NAME out of the Miniature Gazette.  It was a beautiful red dress!

Back

We are currently getting ready to go to the NAME National Convention in Charlotte NC in a little over a week.  This will be a very special trip because we all get to go together and it will be the first national convention for a lot of us!

We made tote bag favors for this event as well, which was interesting to say the least!  You are supposed to make 500 of whatever your making, but for some strange reason (insanity!) we decided to make something that was a pair.  So, we made 1000 of them.  I will post pictures of them when we get back, so as not to spoil the surprise!

That is all for now, and that should catch everyone up on the major events of the past year.
